ABSTRACT
The research work was based on prospect and challenges of entrepreneurship in Nigeria economy.
The purpose of the research was to to ascertain the challenges of entrepreneurship in Nigeria and examine the impact of entrepreneurship in economic development of Nigeria.
Questionnaire was the main instrument used for data collection. The questionnaire was administered to 100 respondents in the selected entrepreneurs in Enugu State. The data collected were analyzed using simple percentage analysis. The result of the study that environmental, socio-economic, political and cultural factors impediment the development of entrepreneurship in Nigeria. The result of the study also showed that entrepreneurship is a tool for minimizing youth unemployment, restiveness and indulgence in criminal acts.
Finally, the study revealed that entrepreneurship contributes to the standardization and stability of economic development.
Base on the findings, it was recommended that the following element should be considered as tools to strengthen entrepreneurship in Nigeria; Entrepreneurial forum, Finance, Capacity building, Regulations/Internal control, Government incentives and system changes.
